Kris asked:

Hi. I have a broadband connection at my home computer but I bought a laptop which has an in-built adaptor to capture wireless signals if possible. But I go to the mountains often and I don’t have any connections there, whatsoever. So I was wondering if there is possibility to buy something or install something on my laptop so I can have internet there too. Thank you.

Yeah you can get ones from Mobile Network Providers, it’s like a normal mobile phone contract but for mobile broadband. Well that’s how it is in England.
    Hope that helps.

Yes, its called a broadband card, but it’s doubtful you will get reception.

If you can’t get cell phone reception, you won’t get internet reception.

Leave your laptop at home and enjoy the mountains. You can live without MySpace and email for a couple of days. Trust me, its possible.

a wireless card, like from Verizon, but ask first how good or bad the coverage is where you go in the mountains

There are 2 ways that I know.

One is passing through the cellular phone if it is supported.

The second would be Wimax. you phone or internet service provider must have this services. You will need a Wimax card to plug into your computer as it is not installed on every computer since it’s not yet a common practice.

It is not a case of what you can buy , its a case of is there a signal to pick up , if there is, which i doubt, then your computer will pick it up as long as it an unsecured connection. which again is unlikely

Some ISP’s have a dial up connection for free (att) sou you just need a modem on your laptop, a working phone connection, setup on computer to use dial-up, although this will be a 56k connection it will be cheap(free with most providers) there are also wireless cards that connect via Satellite, most cell phone providers will charge just like your cell phone(including roaming charges) so this can be costly, if you have existing phone service, you may be able to get DSL to your home already, it would all depend on how much you are there, how much service you need, (if you are the once a month for 3 days neither of the above will be very cost effective, you will pay a lot of money every month for something you barely use) you can also use your blackberry or other cell phone that has a media plan available to connect via wireless( I have not done this but know of others that have)
but if you are using a blackberry or I-phone you can web surf already.

    Sorry for the length

    Good luck
