I am going to set up a simple network connecting 6 computers. 5 of them will connect wirelessly. I need to buy a router, just wondering if WLAN will play a factor in set up. Thanks in advance!
Some of the routers I was looking at had a “1×10/100 WAN” port, sorry I was mistaken. What is that port used for?

What business isn’t “connected” today? The answer is, almost nobody! There are a variety of ways to connect to the Internet today. These include using a modem, a local-area network connection in your office, a cable modem or a digital subscriber line (DSL) connection. DSL offers a high-speed connection while using the same wires as a phone line and is just one of the ways a homeowner or business can connect to the Internet.

Advantages of using DSL service:

Allows you to remain online and still use the phone line for regular calls. Gives you faster Internet speeds than a regular modem (1.5 Mbps vs. 56 Kbps). Uses your existing phone line, so no need to install additional wiring.

The great thing about signing up for DSL service is the modem is usually supplied by the DSL provider as part of the installation.

Disadvantages of using DSL service:

Living closer to the provider’s central office gives you a faster DSL connection. Data being received is faster than data being sent over the Internet. DSL availability can be limited to certain cities, so not everyone can get this service.

In summary, if you are considering a DSL line for your home or business, consider its advantages and disadvantages before purchasing this service. A lot of businesses today are upgrading to T1 lines, bypassing DSL lines totally. While T1 lines are more expensive than a DSL line, they offer a business an edge over the competition because it’s a much faster service. And with a faster connection, a business can be more productive, improving their bottom line.
